So close…my precious

This item was filled under [ AAdvantage ]

I logged into AA.com this morning, and look at what’s posted:

I am now a mere 512 miles from lifetime status on AA.
Random fact: based on my AAdvantage join date (April 17, 1998), I’ve earned approximately 279.34 AAdvantage miles/day to get to 999,488.

Falling ice…holy crap!

This item was filled under [ winter ]

Now, while I never really watched Everybody Loves Raymond
when it was on, I have to say, what I’ve seen of it in syndication, it’s been OK. But I LOVE, and I mean LOVE Frank Barone, and his exclimation of “Holy Crap” is spot on.
So, when I saw this sign outside my building earlier today, my [...]

Matthew to Florida: So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, good night

This item was filled under [ Florida ]

Well, I’m off from FL, n’er to return for a while.
I’ll definitely miss this:

Love the jacked-up truck sans back window…
Unfortunately, I will be stuck with this:

ayup…that’s an ice crust on Lake Michigan as seen from our approach to ORD.

Multi-channel Chick-Fil-A

This item was filled under [ Intrawebs ]

Gotta love the way Chick-Fil-A is using their core channel (drive through) to route people to their new website:

One nice feature the new site has is the meal calculator, where you can create a meal, and it will show you how many calories/etc the meal has. Nice to see a company be upfront about this.

This item was filled under [ Evil ]

So, I’m down in Florida, and apparently, the genius that I am, I left my USB/PDA cable in Chicago. Realizing I had no way to recharge my cell phone without it, I head over to BestBuy after work to pick one up. I get the Dynex 4′ USB A to mini B 5-pin doohicky…get to [...]

New Advances in Cockpit Security!

This item was filled under [ De plane! De plane! ]

Here we see American Airlines demonstrating their new cockpit security method for their MD-80 fleet:

Now, if that looks like a food cart wedged in the aisle while the (co-)pilot is using the lavatory or the F/A is servicing the cockpit, then yes, you’re right…that’s EXACTLY what they’re doing now.
MMMMYeah, this’ll work.

-28 degrees later

This item was filled under [ City of Big Shoulders ]

As you’re no doubt aware, we’re having some serious sub-arctic temperatures going on here in the Chicago area. Unfortunately I had to venture out this morning to the Mario Tricoci location at Old Orchard to get my hair cut (yes, I know, I’m a DINK, getting a $60 haircut).
Shockingly, the open air mall (seriously, who [...]

Thanks, TSA!

This item was filled under [ Life on the road ]

So, I packed my suitcase all nice and everything inside it. Gave it to the nice AA lady at RSW for them to check.
Make it through the flight (upgrade cleared literally as I was waiting to board for coach…woo woo!), and then to the luggage carousel. Out comes my bag, with an Ethernet cable, and [...]

How many points?

This item was filled under [ Florida ]

So, myself and a co-worker who is also down in RSW with me have a little game going. It involves how many jacked-up trucks we can see a day while we’re down there. Usually the count is around 5-10, but today, I saw a truck that should count for at least one hundred points….what do [...]

Magical Free Beer!

This item was filled under [ beer ]

So I decided to visit Lee Roy Selmon’s tonight in Fort Myer’s.
As I was dining alone, I saddled up to the bar, and asked for a Bass Ale. The bar wench (god, I LOVE that term) informed me that it’d be free, as the restaurant was getting rid of all the Bass, as they were [...]
