Sanity (maybe) returning to airfare pricing

I’ll first start this post by saying that I’ve become a huge fan of “Up Front with Tim Winship” on SmarterTravel.com. It’s an insightful column, and in the past month or so, it’s become required reading for me.

That being said, he had a good column on how Singapore Airlines is now showing “all-inclusive” pricing for their fares (”Singapore Airlines gets ticket pricing right“)…so when you see a round-trip from LA-Singapore 21-days out is $X, then you know you won’t pay more than that (with taxes, surcharges, fuel fees, etc).

This is good news for all of us who travel. If this sticks, and other airlines are forced to follow, we’ll no longer have those god-awful ads showing a fare in 4 inch type, with the ever present asteriks showing in 3-point type the myriad rules, additional fees and taxes to be added on (I’m looking at you American Airlines with your evil NetSAAver emails). All I want to know (and most people, I dare say) is what it’s going to cost me to go from point A (ORD) to point B, in total, and not having to jump through sixteen hoops to calculate.
