Matthew’s questions for Senator Clinton at the ABC Debate

That debate was a travesty…it was a pile-on-Barack dog-pile. What the hell were Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos thinking? Rightly so, the debate is getting panned in the reviews and the talk of the Sunday shows. It’s a shame to see such a serious subject, the picking of a nominee, turn into farce.
That being said, I’d love to see the debate re-run with some of these questions asked of Senator Clinton:
Senator Clinton, you’ve repeatedly stressed your experience in your husband’s administration as why you’re ‘ready on day one.’ Let’s turn to a couple incidents during that time.
- Could you provide us with more clarity with what level of involvement either you or your brother had in the pardon of fugitive Marc Rich?
- As you and your campaign have pointed out, Senator Obama attended a fundraiser at the home of William Ayers, a member of the Weather Underground, however your husband pardoned a number of the members of the Weather Underground while he was President. Since your husband felt their convictions were un-just, why are you making this an issue in the campaign? Do you disagree with your husband, and if so, did you register your disapproval at the time of the pardons?
- Turning to another set of pardons, can you assure us that your husband’s pardons of members of FALN at the time you were running for your Senate seat was meant to show solidarity to the large Puerto Rican population of New York City?
- With your 1993 foray into health-care reform, your working group showed a penchant for secrecy and working behind closed doors that is striking in its resemblance to how the current administration conducts business. Can you assure us that your administration would not follow either the precedent you set in 1993, or the model of the current the administration?
Turning to more recent events:
- You and your campaign have repeatedly stressed Senator Obama’s ties to Tony Rezko, however, your campaign continues to gloss over the deep involvement of Norman Hsu in your campaign fund-raising apparatus. Why was Mr. Hsu not vetted as befits a major bundler, and why did you not quickly move to distance yourself from him when it became clear he was a fugitive from a felony conviction? As a follow-up, if Senator Obama is to be judged for his involvement with Mr. Rezko, why should you not be held to the same standard?
- With your quickly staged photo op at the bar in Indiana, you threw back a shot as if you were an old hand at it. Could you let us know the last time prior to this event you had a shot of whiskey? As you were using that event to show your solidarity with the “lunch bucket, shot drinking, beer chasing” section of the electorate, could you please name at least one brand of whiskey in the following categories:
- Canadian Whiskey
- Bourbon
- Tennessee Sour Mash
- Irish
- Scotch
- Japanese whiskey for a bonus point
- You have told the story of being taught to shoot behind your family’s summer cabin as a way to show that you understand “hunters and sportsmen”. Could you tell us the last time you fired either a pistol, rifle, long-gun, or shotgun?
- As a follow-up to that last question, Senator, could you tell us if you believe that the Second Amendment encompasses an individual right to own a firearm, or if you take the strict construction view on the “well-armed militia” clause?
Any other questions people’d like to see?
