MyChauffeur,suburbs

Earlier today, I got emailed this lovely missive. Basically cutting off shared ride service to all the suburbs. Feh. Here’s my reply.

Front Desk Agent,Hilton Brentwood

Quoted from I am a Front Desk Agent:

It is completely my fault that the blizzard shut down the airport and you have to sleep in a warm king-size bed while 5000 of your co-travellers are sleeping in benches at the airport. I am sorry.

I have to [...]

Life in Tennessee (again)

This item was filled under [ Life on the road ]

I’m back in BNA, after flying into Memphis this morning (for a visit to the client’s DC). While our American Eagle CRJ-700 was one pretty bird (as seen below), 0645 wheels up makes for an early (and long) day.

Apologies to Dan for having to drive the last 100 miles from Memphis to Nashville as I [...]

I’ll take things you don’t want to see taking off in front of you on 9/11 for $1000, Alex!

No,  seriously, this (I think) F/A-22 took off in front of us today at BNA:

Maverick: Requesting permission for flyby.
Air Boss Johnson: That’s a negative Ghostrider, the pattern is full.

And then once we got up, this is the crud we had to go through…ugh:

And by “invited” we mean “pay us 5 bills, sucka!”

This item was filled under [ Life on the road ]

I felt so honored by Hertz for inviting me (see below) into the President’s Circle (I’m guessing their equivalent of Avis First)…but the whole $450 “invitation fee” was such a buzzkill. Guess I’ll just stick to giving Avis my business since they already love me more than Hertz ever will (I am the biggest fan [...]

“Due to ‘customer’ ‘preferences’ we’re now about to screw you even more!”

This item was filled under [ Life on the road ]

Well looks like Hilton HHonors is now going to screw us even more now that they’re getting rid of the rolling 12-month qualification window….feh. Wonder how they’ll blame this on oil prices.

MyChauffer gets it right

This item was filled under [ Life on the road ]

I’ve been using MyChauffer for over a decade now as the car service I use to get to/from ORD. Back in March they announced that they would be instituting a $2.50 phone booking fee for anyone making a reservation over the phone. While this really didn’t affect me, as I am a religious devotee of [...]

AA3936 in pictures

This item was filled under [ Life on the road ]

I took AA3936 tonight to get back home…and because I was bored out of my skull, ended up taking a ton of pictures during it.
We started out at CVG, with this lonely tug sitting along side us:

Here’s the F/A doing her final flight check:

As we climbed out, we made a nice long left turn:

And we [...]

Why, exactly would you need this?

And here’s a product in search of a market: AvisConnect, which looks to just be a GPRS/EVDO/whatever to WiFi bridge for you to rent for $10.95/day.
Three or four days with that, and you’ve already got the monthly fee for any of the major mobile carriers GPRS/EVDO/whatever card.
Honestly, can’t see why I’d ever pay for that.
